Micromobility nyc, 2024:

2024 has been a wild year in the fight for better streets in New York City. We've recruited a lot of new supporters via the congestion pricing fight. Legislation for Universal Daylighting, our top policy position, has been introduced. And we've found a lot of new enemies in the Council and Governor's offices. The mission is going mainstream, and all of it starts with communities of those that care.

-MISER

#10 - QUEENSBRIDGE GREENWAY

It took almost a year to get the city to start taking this problem seriously. Finally, the police have cleared the parked cars that had invaded the Queensbridge Greenway, killing the hundred-year-old London Plane trees and destroying the environment. It might be one one time anyone has ever been able to do anything about illegal parking anywhere in NYC.

#9 - BIKE BUS

These kids from PS 110 have embraced the global phenomenon of the bike bus and brought it to NYC.

#8 - STREETS FOR CARS...

It's genuinely hard to show how stupid streets for cars are to people who only experience them from cars... though sometimes you get lucky.

#7 - PALADINO INSANITY

Jesus Christ. I mean seriously, just Jesus Christ.
Who could forget the dumbest fight over a greenway the world has ever seen.
Vicky and the suburban losers in the Council also fought micromobility directly, trying to force through hairbrained ebike licensing schemes

#6 - PARKING MANDATES FIGHT

All change is incremental, and boy is that true in NYC. The Council sabotaged the City of Yes plan, but we did get them to stop forcing at least some parking lots in residential buildings

#5 - BARCELONA SUPERBLOCK

It's important to show what's possible and learn from other cities. And just because you go on a honeymoon doesn't mean you stop making content. Though it does help if you marry a nerd.

#4 - BIRD-DOGGING WEPRIN

To this day, the opponents of Congestion Pricing haven't released even the concepts of a plan for how else the MTA could be funded.

#3 - LOW TRAFFIC STREETS

Broadway got even more plaza blocks and low-traffic streets. It's really starting to feel like a connected corridor, though there is so much more work to do, given NYC's glacial pace of bike lane development.

#2 - CONGESTION PRICING

It's a lot easier to win battles if we have an army.

#1 - 31st AVE

Glory, glory, hallelujah.
The King is born.
31st Ave is so good it's the basis of the entire UNCLOG NYC plan for fixing NYC. "Neighborhood Streets" that are low-traffic and prioritize resident's quality of life.

And that's a wrap. It's been kind of a crazy year, 2024.MicromobilityNYC has gained about 9,000 members, per usual, bringing us to about 23k.

See you in 2025
